From
free services like OkCupid and PlentyofFish to paid services like eHarmony and Match, online dating services meet the gamut of singles' needs these days. Neilsen reports an estimated 27.5 million unique visitors to dating sites in 2009. In addition to more professions requiring an eight-hour workday in front of a computer, more people are getting their entertainment solely from online sources, whether from blogs or online streaming television shows. Why not round up and get all of your needs met while online? Online dating makes sense in this world of Web 2.0, and it provides a certain screening process not available in real, tangible life. Tamsen Butler outlines online dating in her book, Meet Your Match Online: The Complete Guide to Internet
Dating and Dating Services, highlighting the benefits of this sometimes controversial way to meet other singles.
